Curbing gives a beautiful look to your landscape. Concrete landscaping is a great way to make your landscaping stand out in your neighbourhood, reduces the amount of time spent edging and clearing out your garden space and repairing inferior edging products, and avoids costly replacement of bent and broken borders.
Q: Can I afford this?
A: Compared to plastic, wood, stone, or concrete brick, you’ll be surprised to know the value of our product.
There are less expensive options available in the market today, but none when compared to our quality curbing solution. Concrete edging is of great value because it is very low on maintenance. We will work with you to deliver a great product that you will be proud of today and in the future.
Q. Will you damage my landscape during the installation?
A. No. We will make sure not to disturb your existing landscaping. The only piece of heavy equipment we use is our truck and trailer to get us to the job. We park it on the street, back alley, or the driveway. Our other equipment is small and specifically designed to work on and around the existing landscape. Our professional team ensures that the yard is cleaned upon job completion.
Q. Does the homeowner prepare for your arrival
A. On a new yard, the topsoil should be levelled to the final grade. On the existing yard, no preparation is required. From installing the border to preparing the area, our installers will look after everything. The only thing left for you to do is to place the rock or mulch back against the border once the concrete has cured (curing is the process in the first 48 hours that makes it hard).
Q. Do you plan border layout?
A. Yes, before we start making changes, our professionals will clearly describe the course planned for your border(s), taking into consideration landscape design and other important considerations regarding the border properties.
Q. How do you stop the grass from migrating into my flower garden?
A. By installing concrete curbing in your landscape! Our borders are 6" wide and will halt regular lawn grass from spreading into your garden area.
Q: How long does the process take?
A: Usually it takes two days, but we will set expectations when we give you an estimate on the timing of the three main steps (preparation, installation, and sealing), subject to wet weather conditions. If wet weather interferes with the original plan, we will reschedule the process accordingly. The preparation and installation can be completed in one day for small to medium jobs and sealing is normally done a day or two later. For larger jobs, the time to complete the process will be clearly explained.
Q: Will replacement affect my current landscape?
A: We’ll cut a 12″ wide strip of sod away from the outside edge of your existing landscaping. This will allow us to force out the curb where your current edging is located. If you have a sprinkler system, additional work may be required.
Q. Can you do a diameter circle around my tree?
A. Our machine does a six-foot (2 meters) radius comfortably, and we can manually do a lot tighter turn. However, there are a few things you should consider: 1) If there is a tree, how big is the tree going to grow? 2) Will I be able to cut the grass easily with my mower if it is inside the curve? and 3) How will the curve affect my landscape?
Q: How long will my concrete curb last?
A: With a little care and maintenance concrete edging will last for many years. Moisture is the primary enemy of any concrete structure; so, we seal all our work with a commercial grade acrylic clear sealer. Periodic resealing once in every two years will help guarantee a long and healthy life for your concrete edging. Get in touch with us if you need your existing curbing resealed, or we can arrange to automatically schedule resealing once in every two years if you would like.
Q. Will my borders crack?
A. The concrete mix we use for our concrete borders has been designed keeping our Maritime climate in mind. We also cut in control joints like what is done in sidewalks and outdoor pads. However, the product is concrete and concrete can and will crack. Reinforcing the concrete mix greatly reduces this possibility. Properly placed control joints will not take away the beauty and functionality of your borders. In addition, we will install the galvanized cable inside the curb to increase concrete structural strength.
Q. Will a chip occur if a heavy object is dropped on the curb?
A. Yes, a rock or hammer dropped on the border can chip it. On natural coloured concrete, the chip will be in most cases barely noticeable. In the case of coloured and sealed borders, the damage will be more noticeable, in which case a dab of sealer on the damaged area will fix the damage. This is one of the reasons why our colours are directly mixed into the concrete mixture to ensure consistent colouring profiles through the curb.
Q: How closely can you match the colours we choose from your samples? Also, will it fade over time?
A: The colour samples we provide you should be used only as a guide, and we mix our concrete to reflect your choices as closely as possible. All our colours are iron oxide pigments that are mixed into the concrete during the mixing process. The colour will not flake off or disappear over time. You may experience a little fading, but this is normal in any outdoor colour application. The sealer applied on the finished curbing will aid in the colour profile for two years, but we highly recommend sealing once in every two years to keep the curbs looking good for many years.
